Different ways of building/editing a Google Maps solution

Folia MapTool is easy to use and with Express Map Wizard, simple map solutions can be build in just a few minutes.

Detailed Map Wizard contains a few extra steps and also enables the user to attach supplementary information about photos, Wikipedia, Webcams and Videos.

In both wizards, the user is guided through the setting-up or editing of a map solution - step by step.

Advanced Map Settings is the classic tool where the user selects the focus area by using tabs and buttons. Here the user is also able to work individually on each address point with regard to choice of marker and photo in the info box.

You can freely switch between the three different entry points. Functions that only exist in e.g. Advanced Map Settings, can only be corrected here.

Basic use of Folia MapTool

The Interaction Window at the top on the left is used for input, uploading and saving of input and the current choice.

The Map Window at the top to the right, is a work window which is used to show the result of the choices in the Interaction Window. The markers on the map cannot be clicked on, but they have various functions in the individual steps of the setting-up / operation of the map solution. The Map Window has a set size and therefore does not display the final map.

The List Window at the bottom shows the individual address points (or markers) that are included in the solution. Points in the List Window can be clicked on, after which they are ready for editing.

Preview at the top to the right in the Map Window. By clicking on Preview, the final map can be seen in the correct format and you can click on a marker, after which the info box for the point is shown.

Setting up a new map

A new map can be built using either Express Map Wizard or Detailed Map Wizard where you are guided through the entire process from start to finish. You can also use Advanced Map where you can work on the individual functions by clicking on the tabs. Advanced Map contains all the functions where, among other things, it is possible to insert photos and individual markers for each point.

Insertion of an address point

The address is entered in the fields Address, Postal code, City, State and Country. As soon as Google Maps has found a position for the entered information, a marker on the map to the right will be shown. It is not necessary to enter information in all fields, but the more information entered for the point, the better the position will be.

After entering address information, check the placement of the point on the map. If the position is not satisfactory, the marker on the map can be dragged to the desired position. This may be necessary if insufficient address information exists or if the point is not an actual address, but is, for example, located away from the road network.

The other fields in the function, Address Point, contain information that is displayed in the info box for the actual address point - Telephone, E-mail, Web and photo.

Insertion of several address points

After inserting one address point (see description), click on Save (and in Advanced Map Settings, subsequently on Create New). The most recent address point is now saved and the entry fields have been emptied and are ready for input for the next point. This process is repeated until all address points have been inserted in Folia MapTool.

You must check the placement of the address point on the map after each entry of address information. If the position is unsatisfactory, the marker on the map can be dragged to the desired position.
